John Glenn Heads Back into Space


On October 29, 1998, John Glenn (born 1921) blasted off aboard Space Shuttle Discovery, becoming the oldest person to go into space. Thirty-six years earlier, on February 20, 1962, he became the first American to orbit the Earth, aboard Friendship 7, his Mercury space capsule (above).
