Humans Establish 'Permanent Presence' in Space

On November 2, 2000, three astronauts arrived at the International Space Station to establish what is expected to be a permanent human presence in space. The station orbits the Earth 16 times a day at an altitude of 240 miles. When completed, it will be visible from Earth.
